Vegetarian Freeze Dried Meals & Meat-Free Dehydrated Food

Vegetarian freeze dried meals: Why?

Freeze dried food, as you probably know, comes from the freeze-drying process. Since virtually any food can be freeze-dried, every type of diet has been catered for. Vegetarians therefore have their own range of freeze dried meals too. It's not uncommon to come across vegetarian hikers, climbers, and other outdoor enthusiasts. Some people also follow diets that exclude all animal-based products.

Food on the trail is a bit like fuel. When it doesn't hit the mark or leaves you unsatisfied, it can ruin the experience — especially for vegetarians. The variety within vegetarian freeze dried meals helps you avoid that. Beyond protein bars and a handful of other options, energising snacks for vegetarians can be hard to find.

Vegetarian freeze dried meals: a few menu ideas

A bag packed with freeze dried meals means you can hike without worrying about what you'll eat. Eating the same meal for days on end can clearly wear you down. It's worth exploring the different options available to you — and we're here to help you navigate them. Our shop stocks around a hundred products to delight your taste buds and fuel your body.

At breakfast

Breakfast is the first meal of the day, so it deserves to be chosen and prepared with care to fuel everything ahead. Can you picture yourself having coffee or tea every single morning during an outdoor adventure? That kind of routine will soon get tiresome. Besides, morning is not the time to start hunting for breakfast. To help, we offer a wide range of foods for a varied and satisfying breakfast throughout your adventure. Here are a few options.

• Chocolate muesli: affordable and packed with over 500 kcal of energy. With a five-year shelf life, it's produced in Germany by the brand Travellunch — a benchmark in the freeze-dried food market — and weighs just 145 g including packaging. It requires very little water and is ready in an instant. A concentrated blend of oats, milk, chocolate, and other little treats for your taste buds.

At lunch

The lunch break is your opportunity to replenish as much energy as possible. A good rest starts with a good meal — one that's quick to prepare and easy for your body to digest. To help with that, our shop offers a wide variety of dishes.

Treat yourself to a pack of Onigiri — rice and vegetable balls or Onigiri — kombu rice balls. We also stock Moroccan couscous in large and small formats and green nettle curry with rice. For even more variety, we have pasta dishes including macaroni cheese, pasta with cheese and mushrooms, three-cheese dauphinois gratin, and many more dishes to keep you going.

Dessert or snack

It's the perfect time to treat yourself or beat the boredom with a snack that hits the spot. Our products not only satisfy your hunger but also help you recharge your energy. Here are a few of our favourites:

• • Chocolate biscuit balls
  • Exotic treat — freeze-dried fruits

Make your choices and finish your meals on a sweet note.

Packs

Freeze-dried packs are a real gem for hikers. These packs are designed to make life even easier, typically including breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snack meals. They're tailored to the duration of your activity. Inside, you'll also find a few handy accessories such as a flameless heater, cutlery, tissues, and more.

Benefits for hikers, mountaineers, skippers, and more

Freeze-dried food is a genuine asset for consumers. For hikers and outdoor enthusiasts, it's a real game-changer — the kind of product that makes life easier on several fronts.

Cost

Vegetarian freeze-dried foods are affordable and budget-friendly. For a dinner or lunch that might otherwise cost you €15, you can get a ready-made meal from us for under €5. It's hard to argue with spending €15 on three meals rather than the same amount on just one.

Long-lasting and nutritious

Imagine you're planning an outdoor activity lasting around a week. You manage to cook enough food for the entire trip. How do you plan to keep it fresh throughout without losing its nutritional value? Even with a long-term preservation method, the food would almost certainly lose some of its nutrients.

Freeze dried meals spare you that struggle. High-protein foods without meat can be hard to come by for vegetarians. Vegetarian freeze-dried snacks are mostly rich in protein and deliver excellent energy value.

Easy to carry

Have you ever had to carry a packed lunch for a morning? Now imagine that same weight and volume for a two-day hike. It would clearly be a challenge to carry. You simply wouldn't have enough room for everything. With a freeze-dried pouch weighing barely 200 g (7 oz), you can take as many products as you like. Special packs give you even more space thanks to what's inside.

A wide choice of freeze-dried vegetarian recipes

Beyond the examples already mentioned, the catalogue offers over 200 freeze-dried vegetarian products. These include pasta dishes (macaroni cheese, pesto pasta, walnut pasta), curries and rice dishes (Asian curry, Thai rice, tikka masala rice, lentil and spinach dahl), risottos (mushroom risotto, asparagus and broccoli risotto) and stews (vegetarian bourguignon with potatoes, Indian stew).

Complete packs for multi-day hikes

For an all-in-one option, several packs combine different recipes: a selection of 10 bestsellers (1.5 kg, around 6,000 kcal in total), a 7-day vegetarian hiking pack (4 kg, around 2,187 kcal per day) and a 14-day vegetarian trekking pack (8 kg, around 2,187 kcal per day). Each also includes accessories such as a flameless heater.
