Description

Naon’s organic buckwheat couscous, vegetarian tagine-style, is a dehydrated meal that brings North African-inspired flavours to the outdoors. Suited to hiking, trekking and backpacking, it offers a vegetarian alternative to traditional meat-based dishes. Quick to prepare and light to carry, it’s a convenient way to enjoy a hot meal after a day outside.

The recipe is made primarily with organic buckwheat couscous (65%), alongside tomatoes, carrots, onions and chickpeas. Sultanas and apricots add sweetness that contrasts with the cumin, cinnamon and ginger. The result is an aromatic dish inspired by traditional tagine. Buckwheat also offers an alternative to wheat couscous when you want to vary your sources of carbohydrate on a multi-day trip.

At 410 kcal per serving, this dish provides 77.2 g of carbohydrate, 13.6 g of protein and 7.6 g of fibre. It’s a useful way to refuel during a hike or after sustained activity. The certified organic recipe is made without added sugar or ingredients that naturally contain gluten, although traces may be present.

Preparation is simple: pour the contents of the pouch into a container, add around 250 ml (8.5 fl oz) of boiling water, stir and leave to stand for 5 minutes. No further cooking is needed. Once rehydrated, it makes a 370 g (13.1 oz) serving, while weighing just 120 g (4.2 oz) in your rucksack.
