Description

The bivouac carbonara pasta is a complete freeze-dried meal designed for eating in the great outdoors. Suitable for hiking, bivouacking or bikepacking, it stands out thanks to its self-heating system. This lets you enjoy a hot meal with no stove, no gas and no flame — a practical solution for reducing cooking kit during multi-day adventures.

Inspired by carbonara, this recipe delivers a creamy texture and rich flavour — particularly satisfying after a hard day's effort. At 470 kcal per serving, it provides the energy needed for outdoor activities. The carbohydrates from the pasta help replenish energy stores, while the protein supports post-activity recovery.

Preparation is done directly using the self-heating system. After rehydrating the pasta with the indicated amount of water, the pouch is placed in the flameless heater. Adding water to the heating compartment triggers a reaction that generates heat. The meal can then be warmed without carrying a stove or fuel.

Light and compact before rehydration, the carbonara pasta fits easily into a backpack or bikepacking bag. Its travel-friendly packaging and long shelf life make it a practical choice for multi-day hikes, bivouac nights or emergency food supplies.

The bivouac self-heating carbonara pasta includes:

  • A hot meal with no stove, no gas and no flame thanks to the self-heating system
  • 470 kcal per serving to meet energy needs after a demanding day out
  • A creamy carbonara-inspired recipe in a compact format suited to outdoor activities

Warning : the self-heating system generates significant heat during use. Do not touch the heating agent directly and do not open the heater during the reaction. Do not use on your lap or inside a sleeping bag. Place on a stable surface and use in a well-ventilated area, out of reach of children. Allow the heating pouch to cool completely before disposing of it. The heating system is single use.

Frequently asked questions

How does it work?

A heating pouch contains an agent that reacts on contact with water. This chemical reaction generates heat and warms your meal — no fire, no gas and no stove required.

When is it useful?

In areas where open fires and stoves are prohibited, when travelling by air where gas canisters are banned, in strong winds or heavy rain, and in emergency or rescue situations.

How long does it take to heat a meal?

About 20 minutes depending on the meal. The reaction starts 20 to 30 seconds after contact with water.

How much water is needed?

Only 20 to 50 ml depending on the model. Too much water causes overflow; too little results in insufficient heating.

Does the water need to be drinkable?

No. Non-drinking or salt water works perfectly well to activate the heater, saving your clean water supplies. However, the water you add to your freeze-dried meal must be drinkable.

How to use it, step by step?

  1. Rehydrate the freeze-dried meal with cold water and seal it well.
  2. Pour the required amount of water into the heater to activate it.
  3. Place the meal pouch inside the heater.
  4. Seal the heater and lay it flat.
  5. Wait 20 minutes without touching or opening the bag (heats to over 100°C / 212°F).
  6. Dispose of the cooled heating pouch in general household waste.

What temperature does it reach?

Between 90 and 100°C (194–212°F), sometimes higher. Never touch the heating agent directly and do not open the bag during heating.

Can I use it inside a tent or a van?

Yes, as long as you are in a well-ventilated area. Do not press the heater against delicate fabrics (sleeping bags, down jackets).

What safety precautions should I take?

Always use on a stable surface. Never on your lap or inside a sleeping bag, never within reach of children, and never open the heating pouch during the reaction.

Is the pouch reusable?

No, it is single use.

How do I dispose of it?

Allow it to cool completely, then dispose of it in a standard bin. The waste is non-toxic.
