Description

The stargazer braised beef is a complete freeze-dried meal designed for eating in the great outdoors. Suited to hiking, bivouacking or bikepacking, it stands out thanks to its self-heating system. This lets you enjoy a hot meal with no stove, no gas and no flame — a practical solution for keeping your cooking kit to a minimum during multi-day adventures.

This recipe combines tender pieces of beef with a rich, flavoursome sauce inspired by traditional slow-cooked dishes. Its comforting taste makes it a perfect meal after a demanding day. At 539 kcal per serving and 18 g of protein, it provides a meaningful energy contribution while supporting recovery after activity.

Preparation is done directly using the self-heating system. After rehydrating the meal with the indicated amount of water, the pouch is placed in the flameless heater. Adding water to the heating compartment triggers a reaction that generates heat. The meal can then be warmed through with no stove or fuel to carry.

Compact and lightweight before rehydration, the braised beef is easy to carry in a backpack or bikepacking bag. Its travel-friendly packaging and long shelf life make it a practical choice for multi-day hikes, bivouac trips or emergency food supplies.

The self-heating stargazer braised beef delivers:

  • A hot meal with no stove, no gas and no flame, thanks to the self-heating system
  • 539 kcal per serving and 18 g of protein to meet your energy needs after exertion
  • A recipe inspired by traditional slow-cooked dishes, in a compact format suited to outdoor activities

Warning : the self-heating system generates significant heat during operation. Do not touch the heating agent directly or open the heater during the reaction. Do not use the device on your lap or inside a sleeping bag. Place it on a stable surface and use it in a well-ventilated area, out of reach of children. Allow the heating pouch to cool completely before disposing of it. The heating system is single-use.

Frequently asked questions

How does it work?

A heating pouch contains an agent that reacts on contact with water. This chemical reaction releases heat and warms your meal — no fire, no gas and no stove required.

When is it useful?

In areas where open fires and stoves are prohibited, on flights where gas canisters are not allowed, in strong winds or rain, and in emergency or rescue situations.

How long does it take to heat a meal?

About 20 minutes depending on the meal. The reaction starts 20–30 seconds after contact with water.

How much water is needed?

Just 20–50 ml depending on the model. Too much water causes overflow; too little results in insufficient heating.

Does the water need to be drinkable?

No. Non-potable or salt water works perfectly well to activate the heater, saving your clean water supplies. However, the water you add to your freeze-dried meal must be drinkable.

How to use it, step by step?

  1. Rehydrate the freeze-dried meal with cold water and seal it well.
  2. Pour the required amount of water into the heater to activate it.
  3. Place the meal pouch inside the heater.
  4. Seal the heater and lay it flat.
  5. Wait 20 minutes without touching or opening the bag (it heats to over 100°C).
  6. Dispose of the cooled heating pouch in your household waste.

What temperature does it reach?

Between 90 and 100°C, sometimes higher. Never touch the heating agent directly and never open the bag during heating.

Can I use it inside a tent or a van?

Yes, provided you are in a well-ventilated area. Do not press the heater against delicate fabrics (sleeping bags, down jackets).

What safety precautions should I take?

Always use on a stable surface. Never on your lap or inside a sleeping bag, always keep out of reach of children, and never open the heating pouch during the reaction.

Is the pouch reusable?

No, it is single-use.

How do I dispose of it?

Let it cool completely, then dispose of it in your regular bin. The waste is non-toxic.
