Description
The ProLite Apex is a self-inflating sleeping mat designed by Therm-A-Rest. Like all mats from the American brand, this one follows suit by being compact and lightweight. It's slightly larger than a Nalgene bottle (approximately 33 cm long for the Regular model) when packed. Its weight is 620 g for Regular, 790 g for Regular Wide and 850 g for Large. Being self-inflating will save you lots of energy when inflating and deflating it. Always appreciated after a day of exertion.
The Therm-A-Rest ProLite Apex mat has an R-Value of 3.8. This indicator evaluates the thermal insulation performance of mats. This standard is standardised and was created by the Outdoor Industry Association. With an R-Value of 3.8, this mat is perfect for 3-season use. Head out on adventures from spring to autumn, without fearing cold from the ground and with maximum comfort. This is enabled by the ProLite Apex's StrataCore structure which offers the best weight-to-warmth ratio of self-inflating mats on the market.
Equipped with the WingLock valve, the Therm-A-Rest ProLite Apex self-inflating mat is as easy to inflate as it is to deflate. This very robust valve withstands impacts and extreme temperatures. But in case of damage (it can still happen), it's possible to repair or replace it. This avoids having to buy a new hiking mat.
To inflate the mat, simply open the valve and blow. Unlike traditional inflatable mats, the ProLite Apex will inflate 3 times faster. Hence the term “self-inflating mat”. The non-return valve prevents it from deflating rapidly, even if left open. However, you must still close it to prevent any loss. Conversely, if you've over-inflated your mat, simply open the valve. The small amount of air escaping will help make it more comfortable.
Regarding deflation, open the WingLock valve then roll up your ProLite Apex mat. Air will escape and the mat will compress to return to its original size. Appreciated speed that saves energy before leaving camp for a new day of hiking.
