Ensure beforehand that it's clear and not stagnant. If so, use 1 tablet per 1 litre of water. Within 30 minutes, you'll have potable water, free from bacteria and viruses. This allows you to avoid carrying an excessively heavy water supply. Moreover, you'll avoid catching diseases from drinking water sourced in nature.
