Energy bars: a handy snack for trail running, cycling and hiking

Energy bars for endurance sports

Our energy bars are designed for people who love sports such as hiking, ultra-trail running, running and bikepacking. These activities use a lot of energy and demand sustained effort. That’s why it’s important to refuel. Energy bars are solid foods that provide carbohydrates during exercise, helping to limit the depletion of glycogen stores and prevent energy slumps.

That makes their ingredients particularly important. Nutrition bars pair well with energy drinks during intense or exceptionally prolonged exercise. They generally provide the nutrients your body needs to function normally before and during physical activity.

They contain vitamins B1, B3, E and C, as well as minerals such as magnesium, sodium and zinc. Energy bars are nutritious snacks and are often free from saturated fats and refined sugars. You can eat them before, during or after exercise.

You’ll find a wide range of bars from different brands in our shop. We work with leading brands, including Näak, Clif Bar, Overstim.s, Baouw, Meltonic, Maurten and many more. These high-quality bars help keep your energy levels up.

They contain nutrients, mainly from natural ingredients. They’re easy to digest and have no adverse effects. Their ingredients vary, but each bar does its job well.

Our other nutritional bars

We also stock other types of nutrition bars, including protein bars. They’re just as important as energy bars because they help support muscle recovery. However, they’re low in carbohydrates, so they’re ideal after exercise. You can also eat them during exercise, particularly when hiking.

We also offer cereal bars, perfect for a quick snack. Take them anywhere, whether you’re outdoors or at the office. If you fancy something more indulgent, you’ll find chocolate bars in our range too. Just make sure they don’t melt while you’re out and about! For a break from sweet snacks, we also have a range of savoury energy bars.

Finally, for anyone in a hurry or hikers who don’t want to stop for lunch, there are meal bars. They contain all the nutrients of a meal. Ideal for keeping you going without losing time.

What else can you use to refuel?

Alternating between solid foods and liquids is a good way to keep things varied. Try energy gels or energy purées. These types of sports nutrition are easy to absorb. If you find gels too sweet, you can dilute them in water.

Don’t overlook energy drinks, either. Rich in carbohydrates, they help prevent low blood sugar during prolonged exercise.

Finally, electrolyte drinks are ideal for replacing minerals lost through sweat. Minerals are essential, and each one—including potassium, sodium and magnesium—plays an important role.

High-calorie bars: fuel for demanding activities

Some bars in this category are classed as high-calorie: they provide more calories per serving thanks to a high proportion of carbohydrates and, sometimes, fats. They’re particularly suited to athletes undertaking prolonged activities such as ultra-trail running, multi-day hikes and bikepacking, who need extra energy. They also suit people looking to increase their daily calorie intake during intensive training.
