Long-Life Drinking Water

What is long-life drinking water?

By definition, drinking water is safe to drink and use for household purposes without posing a health risk. It can be supplied in different ways, including from the tap or in containers designed for storage.
Long-life drinking water can be stored for several years, or even a decade, depending on its packaging. Specific treatments and packaging help preserve its quality over time. Options include water pouches from FDF TEK, containing 24 portions of 125 ml for a total of 3 litres, and Seven Oceans, containing 2 pouches, each with 5 portions of 50 ml, for a total of 500 ml.
Water pouches can be stored for around 5 years. Their multilayer packaging, which includes aluminium, protects the contents and makes the pouches easy to store. They are durable and leakproof, making them well suited to emergency supplies, provided you follow the manufacturer’s storage instructions.
You can also choose water in a barrel with a 10-year shelf life, made by Emergency Food by Convar. The 5-litre barrel has robust, leakproof packaging that is particularly suited to storing larger quantities of drinking water at home or as part of an emergency kit.
All these drinking water options offer a practical way to build an emergency supply, prepare for a disruption to your water supply or get ready for an emergency. They can also be useful for outdoor activities and self-sufficient expeditions. Their main advantage is their extended shelf life, which gives you a ready-to-use drinking water supply for years.

Benefits of long-life drinking water for outdoor survival and emergencies

In an emergency or survival situation, a supply of drinking water is essential. Whether you are evacuating, facing a natural disaster or isolated for an extended period, access to safe drinking water can quickly become difficult. Keeping a supply in advance helps you meet one of your most important needs: hydration.
Long-life drinking water is particularly useful in 72-hour emergency bags and survival kits. Compact, durable water pouches fit easily into emergency equipment. With a shelf life of several years, you can prepare your kit in advance without having to replace your water supply frequently.
Drinking water is also essential for preparing meals. You can use it to rehydrate freeze-dried food, a common component of survival kits and emergency food supplies. Make sure you have enough water not only to drink, but also to prepare meals and meet other essential needs.
Different packaging options let you tailor your supply to your situation. Individual pouches are especially practical for emergency bags, vehicles and rescue equipment, while multi-litre barrels are better suited to storage at home, in a shelter or at a remote site.
This water is already safe to drink and needs no further treatment, provided its packaging is intact and you have followed the storage instructions. It gives you a supply that is ready to use immediately, alongside water filters and other purification options that can help when you need to collect water outdoors.
With a shelf life of up to 5 to 10 years, depending on the product, long-life drinking water is a reliable way to prepare for the unexpected and become more self-sufficient in an emergency.

Everyday benefits of long-life drinking water

If you want to be more self-sufficient, long-life drinking water is particularly useful. You can store it easily at home so you have a supply when you need one. After all, an interruption to your water supply can quickly disrupt daily life.
Keeping water at home helps you prepare for a crisis or major disaster. During a lockdown, natural disaster or supply disruption, a drinking water reserve lets you meet your immediate needs without relying on the mains supply. Even a temporary loss of tap water can make essential daily tasks difficult.
Because this water can be stored for 5 or 10 years, depending on the product, it offers a practical way to build a long-term supply and replace your stock gradually. You can use it for drinking, cooking or rehydrating your freeze dried food. The 5-litre water barrel is particularly suited to building a drinking water supply at home, while individual pouches let you distribute water between different kits, such as an emergency bag or rescue kit. For larger needs, particularly hygiene and cleaning, it is best to store additional water.
