The popote is halfway between a cup and a saucepan. Generally speaking, it holds more food than a cup. Its capacity varies between 0.5 and 1 liter. The popote is an accessory designed exclusively for camping, bivouacs and expeditions. It is lightweight, compact and can be placed on a wood fire or gas stove.

There are several materials available for hiking pans. The first is stainless steel. It's strong, light and safe to use. It's also durable over time, and will last you for many a wilderness outing.

Then there's aluminum. Even lighter than stainless steel, aluminum pans are ideal for those looking for ultra-light accessories. However, aluminum can be hazardous to health if ingested by the body. The noble material for popotes is titanium. It's the lightest of all. Titanium popotes are barely noticeable in the backpack. They are also sturdy and long-lasting. Last but not least, there are silicone pans. This material has the advantage of being foldable. Hiking pans: ideal for cooking

While a popote is most useful for heating water for freeze-dried meals or pasta, it quickly shows its limitations when it comes to cooking with refinement. That's when you need a saucepan. Unlike the popote, the saucepan is wider, so food is more evenly distributed and cooked more evenly.

Camping pans also have a larger capacity. Its capacity ranges from 0.8 liters to 4 or even 5 liters. Larger capacities are ideal for groups. If you're in the habit of going hiking with friends or family, the casserole allows you to cook convivial meals to be shared around a fire.

When it comes to materials, the most common is stainless steel. It's the sturdiest material and the most suitable for carrying heavier loads. That's why we don't find titanium pans with large capacities.

Titanium pans rarely exceed 1.2 liters. However, there are models from 0.7 liters upwards. You'll be able to cook great meals without weighing down your backpack. To maintain non-stick properties, do not use abrasive objects such as knives or even stainless steel forks. You can, however, use bioplastic sporks or wooden cutlery. To clean, use the yellow side of the sponge, not the green scraping side. A microfiber cloth will also do the trick.
