Test: The Green Smoothie Detox from LyoPowders

The Lyo Powders range

The Lyo Powders range by Lyo Food will appeal to those of you who want to include plant-based foods in their diet. The nutritional characteristics of freeze-dried powdered fruits, plants and vegetables are similar to the properties found in the same products after they have been harvested. In fact, these bags of powders contain a considerable amount of vitamins and minerals. The Lyo Powders range is 100% composed of organically grown fruits, plants, and vegetables, which are true kitchen aids : use them to create healthy drinks, smoothies, cakes, creams, gratins, purees, soups or to enhance the flavor of your yoghurts…

The range also includes « ready-to-drink » mixes ; to use them, simply add water. There are 3 ready-to-drink mixes : red vitamin drink, antioxidant red smoothie and detox green smoothie.

We’ve tried the Detox Green Smoothie

This smoothie contains freeze-dried apple, kiwi, pineapple, spinach, nettle and ginger. Packaging is pretty cool. The title says it all : the drink will be green ! As soon as we open the bag, we see the powder. Just to be curious, we pour some powder in a cup…

Ok, at this stage, it’s just powder... We can’t tell what the compounds are, but let’s be patient here !

Since we can drink directly from the pouch, we pour back the powder into the pouch : done !

Back to our testing ! We measure and add 150 ml of water into the pouch. Then we stir well using a spoon (you can also use a chopstick). To make sure that everything is well mixed, we close the pouch, fold the upper side and shake well several times (be sure it’s well closed, if not beware of splashes !) (Another tip, you can pour your Detox green smothie in a shaker…)

At this stage, you can drink directly from the pouch. But for the purpose of this test, we pour the mixture into a glass (not a tall, not a small, … but a medium-size glass !). Actually, it’s not a lot of drink… However, the fact that so many ingredients are put together in a detox smoothie requires that we try it... Visually, you can clearly see some apple pieces.

The consistency is not thin, but it’s not thick either : in fact, it’s somewhere in between.
It looks appealing. The taste : when we take the first sip, it doesn’t taste sweet.
It’s a bit disappointing, but ingredients show we are on the right track ! Well and even so, this is a mix of some spinach, nettle, ginger and also kiwi, pineapple and apple that we are drinking, and the taste is pretty good !
And that’s it, it can be drunk quickly. Some kiwi or apple seeds sink to the bottom of the glass, which just goes to show that freezing fruits are natural. We also see some pulp deposits on the sides of the glass, likely apple or maybe kiwi deposits.

Our take from our testing experience :

An organic drink on hand at home.
A drink quick and easy to make.
A concentrate of vegetables, plants and fruits that we harkly think could be mixed together, all with a good taste.
Even if you can make this type of beverage at home, the cost of this ready-to-drink mix is pretty good.
