Sea to Summit Alto TR2 backapcking tent - 2 people

The Sea to Summit Alto TR2 is the brainchild of Jake Lah, designer of the DAC poles found on most backpacking tents, and Roland Tyson, founder of Sea to Summit. Their goal was to create a tent that was both lightweight and spacious.

To achieve this, the Alto TR2 uses the patented "Tension Ridge" structure, which means that the poles are tilted upwards instead of downwards as is usually the case. This saves space in the inner chamber. The ceiling is higher (max. 105 cm) and the walls more vertical. In addition, the doors are also higher, which makes it easier to get in and out. If you are confined for a long time, for example because of bad weather, you will not feel cramped.

As far as erection is concerned, it is quick and easy. As this is a semi-self-supporting tent, you will need a few pegs to secure it to the ground. The rest is just a matter of assembling the colour-coded poles. There are five possible ways to pitch the tent:

1. Classic Mode: classic setup

2. Dry Set-Up: Pitch the rain fly first, practical in case of rain

3. Fly Only: only the flysheet is mounted, useful for summer backpacking

4. Inner Only: only the inner chamber can be erected for sleeping under the stars while protecting against insects

5. Partial Only: partial pitching of the rain fly

The Alto TR2 also has a number of features that will make your backpacking life easier. Firstly, the hoop storage bag can be used as a light diffuser if you put your headlamp inside. Secondly, the Fairshare storage system offers the possibility to share the different modules of the tent and better distribute the load.
