What do Kilian Jornet, Mo Farah, Eliud Kipchoge and Jim Walmsley have in common? Besides the fact that they are all 3 outstanding athletes, they are also partners of Maurten. The Swedish brand designs sports nutrition using hydrogel technology. The goal is to provide more carbohydrates than a classic drink, without having the digestion step.
For this, the recipe contains a high concentration of maltodextrin and fructose. When mixed with water, the drink immediately turns into a hydrogel in the acidity of the stomach. Thus, the drink is quickly transported to the intestine where water, salt and carbohydrates are absorbed in large quantities. The body can therefore assimilate up to 90 g of carbohydrates per hour compared to 60 g for a classic drink.
