Rachid El Morabity´s Pack - Marathon in the desert

This complete pack has been designed for a self-sufficiency race with different stages in the desert. Rachid El Morabity, quadruple winner of the Marathon des Sables, have tested and approved the pack. It includes breakfasts, energy bars and drinks to eat/drink during the effort, snacks to enjoy after the race and dinners. You can also if you want add recovery drinks in supplement in your pack. Each pack will bring you between 2000 to 4000 Kcal depending on stages to which you must add recovery drinks if you want. The proteins, lipids and carbohydrates distribution is recomended by the AOI (Atlantid International Organization), so respectively 15%/30%/55%.
The chosen products are slightly even not spicy to prevent the stomach and intestine irritation, which are already put to a severe test. Lot of spices can cause heartburn, gas and even diarrhea which would spoilt the race. Except the lunch for the break day vary and bring to the menu exoticism without however risking to jeopardize the race.
Breakfast : With Muesli to bring energy and fibres. Easy to digest and to prepare, it is completed with a compote or a dairy product
During the race : Energy bars to take every 30 minutes to 1 hour during the race approximately. Energy drinks to dilute into 0,60 to 0,80 liters of water. They can be prepared depending on the temperature. With the marathon condition, drinks have to be more liquid here. You have to drink in one mouthful, that is 10 cl every 10-15 minutes. Do not wait the feeling of thirst to drink. For a better assimilation, you can also prepare a bottle only with water, to vary between energy drink and water.
Stage arrival : A fresh recovery snack, rich in simple and complex carbs. Tabbouleh, easy to prepare without heat, very digestible or fruits rich in mineral salts to offset losses caused by heavy perspiration. You can also add recovery drink if you want, to drink rapidly after your race.
Dinner: a hot and substantial meal since nights are very cool (inferior to 10°C)
About stage's particularity: Non-stop stage: a salty snack, easy to prepare and digestible before to start the night race (Tabbouleh + compote). Also Beef Jerky, rich in proteins, to favour the muscular recovery
Break stage: 3 normal meals
All this for a total weight (in your backpack) of about 5 kg.
